Congress leader Rahul Gandhi says that the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) or the small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) can help redevelop the Indian economy which is struggling to survive.

In a video message released today (April 13), the Congress leader opined that with proper support SMBs can also tackle the problem of unemployment in the country.

A recent report by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the Institute of Human Development (IHD) reveals that India’s youth account for almost 83% of the unemployed workforce.

Rahul Gandhi said that at present the government of prime minister (PM) Narendra Modi has blocked the progress of the SMB units by supporting only a handful of large businesses.

He added that if Congress forms the government by winning the 2024 Lok Sabha election, his party will break the monopoly of oligarchs who are close to PM Modi.

Among the measures that Congress will take to help SMBs grow are the simplification of procedures to get bank loans, streamlined GST (Goods and Services Tax), and the creation of a startup fund worth Rs. 5,000 crore.

Rahul Gandhi said that in order to produce a trained workforce for the SMB sector, Congress will start apprenticeship programs for the educated youth who will be paid a stipend of Rs. 1 lakh per annum.

However, the Congress leader did not reveal his party’s plan to win the 2024 election, which is expected to be won again by Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to form the national government for the third time.
